To whom it may concern, I am J. W. and I am a 13 year old 7th grader at Holy Family School in Des Moines, Iowa. I have just finished reading Sebastian Junger’s The Perfect Storm. I thought it was the best book I have read in a long, long time. Anyway, my teacher, Ms. Rouse, read the book, and she, too, thought it was very good. So, she recommended that I write to the address on the last page. I thought it was a good idea, and was wondering if you could send me some information on the following things: --The Death on The High Seas Act --Swordfishing --Hurricane Grace --Nor’easters Also, I have been interested in marine biology for a long time. Since first grade, to be exact. So I was wondering if you could also send me information on marine biology and those sorts of things. Also, could you tell me if Sebastian Junger has made any other books, or is going to come out with more, and when? Thank you!
Sincerely, J.M.W
My dad was born in Gloucester in 1914 and went to sea in 1928—and the beginning of our family is “born from the sea” in so many ways. His ways were rough and tough but the little I really knew him he was incredibly shy, naïve, and gentle and easier about my beginnings—because I see my Dad through your book and I finally get it.
Enclosed is $50.00 for the foundation. Many fine people in Gloucester kept us from starving in the ‘40s. Thanks to all the good folk! --J. A. S.
I hope that everyone who reads it would send something. I was so moved by these events. --J. R.
Bless the children . . . May they grow strong in Body, Mind, and Spirit> ---C & D. H.
Enclosed is a contribution to the foundation. I never knew the hardships and dangers men and women take to earn a living and bring fish to the table. M. A.
Please pass on my thanks and admiration to the people of Gloucester. I am in awe of the ordeals of their sons and husbands, daughters and wives. With deep felt thanks, P.B.
