JOE GARLAND'S BIOGRAPHY

A newsman, American Newspaper Guild organizer and later a freelance writer. After his graduation from Harvard, Joe Garland has covered politics, civil liberties, labor relations, economics, medicine, science, the environment, and social, political and maritime history. He has also written some 350 columns for the Gloucester Daily Times and nineteen books, including thirteen on the North Shore of Boston and his home town of Gloucester, where he lives with his wife Helen on the harbor shore of Eastern Point. He has finished a memoir of his infantry combat intelligence platoon in Europe during World War II.
